The vernacular state

Project completion: 2021 | Location: Kanjirapally

This home is based on a traditional outlook doubling the idea of creating a sense of infinity through an open plan of the living spaces. The response to the brief is such that it considers the requirement of keeping the public space open, thereby providing ample privacy to the bedrooms. The living, dining, and family living become the heart of the house, with large open windows that bring in light and good ventilation. The material palette remains simple, with neutral tones and the dominance of wood. To meet the recent needs of working from home, a workspace is created within the bedroom with enough privacy from the bed space. The bedrooms and other supporting areas are organized on either side of the central living space. Each bedroom has windows opening to the green outside. An entry through the porch, which leads to the sit-out, opens to the main living space. The design follows the traditional roofing system of Kerala, exhibiting modern roof tiles. Situated slightly off the road, the project sits in harmony with the calmness of its surroundings.
